Chief ACP Supportive Oncology Levine Cancer Institute

Location: Charlotte, NC, North Carolina

Position Details:

The ACP Chief is accountable for ACP clinical and academic activities in the Dept of Supportive Oncology at Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) with Atrium Health.  The ACP Chief is aligned to the Chair of the Department of Supportive Oncology in addition to the reporting relationship with the Director of Advanced Practice for LCI.  In addition to provision of medical care, the ACP Chief is accountable for strong leadership across all areas of clinical operations.  The ACP Chief will establish open communication, effective collegial relationships, and administrative alignment with other ACP Chiefs across LCI & AH, Departmental Section Chiefs, senior Departmental administrative leadership, the administrative leads for all other Sections in the Department, and supervising physicians.  In supplement to the official AH job description, the following lists additional core responsibilities specific to the Department of Supportive Oncology. Primarily outpatient focused position.

 Core Responsibilities:

1.  Provision of Care:

·       Provides medical care in alignment with Collaborative Practice Agreement and Departmental protocols

·       Acts as clinical resource and content expert across disciplines


  1. Visible Leadership:

·       Works collaboratively with Department Chair, Administrative Director, Practice Leadership, Section Leadership, and Supervising Physicians

·       Assists in ‘top of license’ skill set deployment for ACPs

·       Assists in schedule management for ACPs for efficient productivity

·       Leads in ACP recruitment and onboarding

·       Acts as a liaison with referring providers to build Section volumes and manage concerns

·       Attends and contributes to Grand Rounds, Research, Section Meetings, Business Plan Meetings, Admin Meetings, and Medical Staff Meetings

·       Assists with clinical-operational policy and protocol development for the Department or practice locations

·       Participates in recruitment for the Section and other areas in the Department

·       Represents the Sections and Department in meetings in LCI, Atrium, and elsewhere


  1. Business Plans

·       Assists in development of business plans in collaboration with the Section Chief and Administrative Lead of the Section

·       Promotes alignment with strategies for achieving volume, financial, and academic goals  

·       Assists with strategy development and deployment for the Department


  1. Section Meetings:

·       Collaborates with the Section Chief and Admin Lead for agenda items and action items

·       Reviews meeting minutes for Section Meetings

·       Monitors participation by ACPs


  1. Culture:

·       Actively contributes to building and sustaining teammate and provider engagement in the Section and the Dept

·       Reviews patient satisfaction scores related to the Sections and ACPs and works to improve or sustain trends

·       Assists in satisfaction, engagement, and conflict resolution among medical staff, clinical staff, and patients/families


  1. Academic:

·       Tracks, develops, and promotes educational opportunities for ACPs

·       Leads the departmental rotation for ACP fellows including scheduling, curriculum review, and learner experience

·       Provides and/or arranges for speakers in conjunction with ACP educational opportunities

·       Participates in the Departmental Education program across Sections

·       Establishes research agenda and strategy for ACPs

·       Ensures research and educational activities with ACPs effectively conducted to the highest possible standards following AH, LCI, and Departmental policies and protocols


  1. Monitoring and Evaluation:

·       Conducts competency evaluations for ACPs in conjunction with supervising physician

·       Conducts annual performance reviews of ACPs in collaboration with supervising physician, practice management, and section leadership

·       Monitors ACP use of PTO/CME allocations in adherence with employment agreement

·       Ensures ACPs are compliant with all requests related to re-credentialing, documentation timeliness, ACE modules, flu campaign, and other system or departmental initiatives

·       Assists in clinical reviews, quality management & performance improvement initiatives, and risk management inquiries

·       Establishes, reviews, and achieves quality metrics to ensure highest quality in patient care
